More Wedding Plans

I've been doing more wedding planning!

I'm trying to come up with cheap save the date ideas. Last night I came up with the idea of maybe just editing one of our engagement pictures, and then getting them printed off at Costco (9 cents each baby!) and attaching magnets to the back of them. If I print 120 of them that's only about 10 bucks! I'd still have to buy magnets, envelopes and postage, but still not bad!!!

What do you think though? I made this at 1:00AM on picnik haha. Suggestions? Do you like the picture? Fonts? Border? Do I need more info on it? I'm not really up on all this wedding etiquette yet.

I found a local, professional photographer named John Kellar who will be coming to shoot part of my wedding. His normal packages run about $2,000 dollars, but since I'm having a winter wedding and he will only be there to shoot the ceremony and formal pictures afterward, I'm booking him for less than HALF that price. Yippe!! One of my college friends (Hi Mandee!) who is a great photographer is going to be coming to take the getting ready/before the ceremony pictures as well as pictures from the reception. I feel good budget wise about the whole thing, and I'm also still glad to be having a professional come for part of it!

I've decided to DIY all the flowers. Fiancé doesn't really want a boutineer, my family said they don't need any special corsages, and I'm not using flowers as table centerpieces. Thus, I only need bouquets. Another one of my lovely college friends (Hi Erin!!) has worked in a florist before so she is going to make them for me the morning of the wedding! Now I just have to figure out what flowers to use... I've been using my Pinterest to bookmark ideas like these:

My colors are eggplant, hot pink/fusciaish, and silver, and I like the look of using pink flowers against the eggplant bridesmaid dresses. I really know nothing about flowers though so still have to look into what kinds I can get in February.  If anyone has any suggestions for pink/dark purple flowers, I would love to hear them!

Lastly, have you seen todays Groop Dealz?  Tungsten rings for only $55! That's the exact type of ring fiancé wanted! Time to do some ring shopping tonight!

  1. Well, I like that save the date, but the sepia tone with the railroad tracks gives it the impression that it is sort of an old school, possibly western theme. The save the date cards and invites should reflect the theme of the wedding, even if it just incorporating your colors somehow.
I would def DIY the bouquets. Have you considered fabric flower bouquets? I made them for my friends wedding last year.

  3. Wow already saving so much money!!! I agree with Stephanie, things are always best when they all fit to a theme. I do like your Save the Date but make sure it fits with everything else about the wedding!

  4. I was all about having a nice wedding without going into debt or making our parents go into debt, so I totally appreciate where you are coming from. I think that is a great idea for your save the dates!! Great score on the photographers, too. Some of the flowers you are looking at could be done with a realistic fake flower, just something to keep in mind. I got my hubby a tungsten ring as well. I don't remember paying much more than that. (His was from Overstock.com.)
    Happy planning!

I agree...it's the first thing people are seeing so just make sure it fits with your wedding theme. But other than that I do think it looks beautiful! Terrific job on your budget so far!! Great use of photograhers and friends!! And holy smokes that's a great deal on your guy's ring!! Your planning looks like it's going great!!

  6. Yep, what they said. I like the card, but you definitely need to make sure that your save the date promotes your theme.

  7. Love the save the date card but have to agree with Stephanie not a fan of the Sepia tone. But the idea is awesome. My brother and his wife actually used a pic for their thank you cards so I love the picture idea for save the date too!

  8. Suggestion on the save the dates! I recently received one for another wedding with a similar picture idea. Instead of buying magnets and spending for postage to mail them, they just made the photos into postcards. Not only does this give you cheaper postage, most people already have magnets on their fridges that they can use.

  10. I love the save the date idea, although I'm not a huge fan of the sepia tone of yours. Maybe black and white?

And that ring deal is awesome! I'm so glad things are coming together for you!
