Ugly T-Shirt Flower Headband Tutorial

So headbands are my new favorite things to make right now.  This tutorial uses this:

This horrible, two sizes too big, t-shirt that my oral surgeon gave me after I got my wisdom teeth taken out.  Like I would want to wear this t-shirt in public, looking back and reminiscing on the time I woke up sobbing after the surgery and had puffy cheeks for a week.  seriously dentists.

And turns it into....

A pretty little flower headband! much better than a stupid dentist shirt. who even knows what a maxillofacial specialist is???

Here's how to make it.

Supplies
-Old t-shirt. extra points if it's ugly
-Elastic
-Felt
-Needle
-Thread
-Paper
-Pen
-Hot glue gun
-Scissors
-Beads

Steps

Step 1: Trace three different size flower templates out of the paper and cut out four flowers in the biggest size, three in the medium, and one in the small.

Step 2: Stack the flowers on top of each other and sew together through the middle. (PS...sorry for the horrible lighting. I made this while procrastinating for finals studying at like 10:30 PM)

Step 3: Sew on some crystal beads through the middle

Step 4: Make two more flowers in a smaller size.

Step 5: Hot glue the flowers down onto felt.

such a weird, dramatic hot glue picture, eh?

Step 6: Trim away all excess felt from the flowers. Cut out a matching piece of felt for the next step.

Step 7: Measure your elastic to fit around your head and sew together. Sandwich the elastic between bother pieces of felt and hot glue the elastic to both pieces of felt.

And you're done!

Now may you all go out into the world, and make your horrible ugly t-shirts into little pretties :)

  12. What a good idea! I wish I had seen this before throwing away a couple of sweaters -they were not too thick so they might have worked.
