Ribbon and Pearl Necklace Tutorial | My Girlish Whims

Ribbon and Pearl Necklace Tutorial

Monday, July 4, 2011 |
Time for another jewelry tutorial!
PS: If you are not a jewelry-making gal, this is also for sale in my etsy shop!

Today I'm going to show you how to make this pearl necklace. Instead of a regular clasp I've used ribbon - I think it gives it a special touch and looks so cute on - especially wearing it with your hair up!

Supplies:
-Two different size strands of pearls
-Beading wire
-White ribbon
-Ribbon connectors
-Crimp Beads
Also pictured: jump rings, but I didn't end up using them.

Steps:

Step 1: String your first set of pearls onto a piece of beading wire

Step 2: String a crimp bead and then ribbon connector to the end of the wire. Go back through the crimp bead, squish it with needle nose pliers, and trim the excess wire.

Do this for both sides of the pearls

Step 3: Follow the same steps and add the second strand of beads onto the ribbon connectors.

Step 4: Put the ribbon into the jaws of the ribbon connector, and then squeeze it closed with needle nose pliers.

Do this on both sides, and then burn the tip of the ribbon ends so it doesn't fray.

Tie a bow, and now you have a pearl necklace with a cute ribbon closure!

I'll be sharing this with all the link parties in my header including Today's Creative Blog and Christina's Adventures

Hi Rebecca! I just found your blog through U Create and I know I will be visiting often! I especially love this tutorial on the ribbon/pearl necklace. I have some pearls that were my grandmother's--I'm 47, so that tells you how old they are! They are genuine pearl and they've been sitting in my jewelry box since I was a teen. I've always wanted to do something with them but am scared to death of jewelry, so I wouldn't have even thought I could remake them myself. But your tutorial looks so easy and the photos are great, so I'm gonna try it! :-) Thanks so much!
