New Mother's Day Jewelry Program at Walmart!

Mothers Day will be here before you know it...what are YOU planning on getting for your mom??? I'm lucky because my mother just so happens to love all of the jewelry that I make so I never have to worry about going out and buying her a present, I just have to find time to sit down and make her something!

This year I'm one step ahead of the game because Cousin Corporation has an amazing new set of Mother's Day themed jewelry making products out in Walmart stores and I got to try out a few of the new items to make my mom something!

Here's a sneak peak at some of the new items in Walmart stores:

And here is the necklace that I decided to make!

The program has a bunch of great charm options that you can use for bracelets or necklaces, and I decided to use the key charm as a focal point for my necklace.  It came with two loops so you could connect it to chain on either end to make more of a choker style necklace or thread cord through either hole to make a wrapped bracelet, but I decided to just use it as a charm. I only needed the top loop so I used wire cutters to cut off the bottom one to make it look more like a regular key!

Next I gathered up a bunch of other beads to use as accent beads for the necklace including a large and small pearl that were included in one of the new strands available at Walmart!

String all of the beads onto head pins

Use needle nose pliers to bend the wire 90 degrees directly above the bead

Use wire cutters to trim off all but about a 1/2 inch tail

And then use round nose pliers to bend the tail back around into a loop.

You should be left with a cluster of pretty beads all ready to be made into a necklace!

Gather all of the beads up on a large jump ring

And squeeze the ring shut using needle nose pliers

Use pliers to open another jump ring and attach it to the key charm

And then attach this jump ring to the large jump ring holding together the other beads

Cut a long length of chain using wire cutters and string it through the large jump ring.  Use needle nose pliers to attach a clasp to the necklace using a small jump ring on either end of the chain.

You should be left with a classy and fabulous key charm necklace perfect for gifting to your Momma!

Although let's be honest...this necklace is just my style as well.  Maybe my mom won't mind if I try wearing it out and about a few times before I give it to her as a gift? What she won't know won't hurt her...right?? ;)

What type of project would you try tackling for a DIY gift for your mom??? The nice thing about the new Mother's Day program at Walmart is that there are a variety of different jewelry components - some that you can use as an advanced beader and some that are more beginner friendly! So don't be scared to check the program out if you are a newbie to jewelry making, there are lots of different easy options available and I'm sure anyone's mom would appreciate a handmade beaded creation versus ANOTHER candle to add to their collection any day!!
