Let me start by saying I'm a very picky wreath person. I just think so many of them out there are just plain ugly (sorry blog land). After searching around for some inspiration though I've found the kind of simple style I like in wreaths. Now I just tackled my first wreath and I {couldn't} be happier!!
Yarn Wrapped Fall Felt Flower Wreath
Swoon! I can't stop looking at it on my door.
I started out with a Styrofoam wreath form and some yarn. Please note that the yarn is called Vanna's Choice. What yarn and Vanna White have to do with each other, I don't have have a clue.
Then I wrapped and wrapped and wrapped and wrapped some more. Next time I need to be a little more careful to wrap the yarn straighter so it doesn't get to be on and angle. This picture doesn't really show it too great..but I didn't get another other pictures of just the yarn wrapping.
For embellishments I got these little faux berries and orange things from Michaels.
And then just trimmed down the stems and used some hot glue to attach to the wreath.
Next I made three rolled flowers out of felt. I started with a square piece of felt and then cut a squiggly spiral out of it.
I then used hot glue to wrap the felt squiggle (yes, that is the technical term) into a flower,
After burning my fingers oh, three too many times I figured I should actually use these little finger covers I have so you DON'T get burned. What would have been smart: just using them from the beginning. Alas.
Whee! Three cute little flowers
Lastly I just hot glued the flowers in between my berries.
All done!
Oh, I just love it so much! Fall, you are very welcome at my house :)

Hahaha--Vanna is an avid crocheter and even has a book or two out with afghans and such in them. I guess she's their "celebrity endorser." Deborah Norville has yarn too, I think..... I feel so cheesy when I buy Vanna's Choice, but it is a really nice yarn to work with :)
ReplyDeleteOh! And your wreath is cute--nice and simple and fallish.

ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Love the colors you used! And I also love how the yarn is wrapped at an angle even if that was not your intention! I think it adds to the design of your wreath & I assumed you'd done it on purpose for just that reason. I made a yarn wreath myself back in July & I can say that I truly appreciate the tediousness of wrapping yarn around a wreath form! And I think that's why nobody posts pictures of that part of the process. :D That is one never ending process & after making my wreath I vowed to never ever ever ever do a yarn wrapped wreath again! But yours is really pretty and I might have to break my vow now ... if you get tired of looking at your lovely wreath you can check out my summer version here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3903374416264&set=a.3871155090801.2150445.1036342162&type=3&theater

I love how it's wrapped at an angle! It adds some contrast to the yarn! Cute!

ReplyDeleteNo way! It's perfect just the way it is. I personally like the angled yarn look
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely and cosy! I think the slanted angle on the yarn wrapping gives it textural interest - it has such simple, elegant lines I think a little textural interest can be afforded :-)
ReplyDeleteHahaha...your comment about ugly wreaths was so funny (and true)! Yours isn't ugly at all though. :-) Rather cute, actually. I've been thinking of making something similar, and you've made me want to get moving with making it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty yarn wreath, and you have an easy-to-follow tutorial for the felt flowers, too. I just linked over from Crafts 'n Coffee. Thank you! Sharon
