The Most Wonderful Time of the Year Sign

Earlier this summer we finally repainted our family room that was a terrible burnt orange color (I rushed into picking a paint color when we moved in) into a much nicer light blue.  As such, this year I wanted to try to introduce a little more blue into my Christmas decorations to tie into the color of the room.

Last year I decorated with gold, red and white. This year I wanted to keep gold involved, but I needed a lot more blue! I figured one good place to start was by DIYing a sign that involved both gold and blue!

DIY The Most Wonderful Time of the Year Sign

This cute little sign was the first jumping off point to tie blue into my Christmas decor. Here's how I made it!

I started with a canvas from Michaels that I painted with some Martha Stewart craft paint.

While my canvas was drying, I bought this cute phrase from the Silhouette shop and cut it out of vinyl.  I weeded out all of the words so I could use the vinyl as a stencil.

Next I transferred it onto contact paper...very carefully!

And used the contact paper to lay it down on top of my canvas all in one piece.

After that I just used it as a stencil to paint on!

After the paint was dry, I painted Mod Podge onto just the word "Wonderful" and sprinkled on some glitter

Like so!

Afterwards, I peeled off the vinyl and was left with a pretty sign!!!

I had a few places that the paint had leaked, but all I needed was a tiny paintbrush and more blue paint and it touched up really well.

I have it sitting up on one of my floating shelves with a glittery gold Christmas tree - its such a happy little Christmas corner in my room!!

I'll share the rest of my Christmas Shelves soon!!
