Happy Halloween - I'm Alive and Well!

Happy Halloween from Clint Eastwood and a 50s homemaker!!!!

Definitely is a different Halloween than many for us out in PA because of Hurricane Sandy. My prayers are with everyone who lives more coastal than us...the flooding in NJ and NY truly is devastating.

We were lucky enough to get by with no major problems. Our house kept power the whole time. The worst thing that happened to us was our gutter got detached and the top of our porch lamp flew away. No big deal at all.

Hubby's parents had a huge tree fall down in their yard. Luckily it was no where near the house, but it did fall onto another big tree in the yard. The men in the family decided they would try to save the other tree and TOOK A CHAINSAW TO THE FALLEN TREE IN THE MIDDLE OF A HURRICANE. Literally. The wind was crazy. I was so mad. Men do the stupidest things.  Everyone is ok but I just had horrible images of the chainsaw becoming airborne or other trees falling and squashing my sweet (but in this instance incredibly stupid) husband.

Other than that, we were lucky. There are actually a ton of people around here still without power. Lots of downed trees and wires. Lots of food that had to be thrown away. Lots of flooded basements. It stinks, but I have not heard many/any reports of deaths around here or serious injuries.Could have been a lot worse. I feel very blessed to personally have been so unaffected.

Anyone else get hit? Hope you all are well!!!

Happy Halloween Felt Bunting

I recently participated in the first round of American Crafter over at Naptime Crafters!

The first round's theme was Halloween.

Here's my project!

I made a cute little Happy Halloween Bunting! It was so simple to make and only requires two different supplies: felt and embroidery floss!

I started by cutting out triangles of felt in fall colors

I penciled on a letter on each pennant

Embroidered it on

And then connected the pennants by stitched across the top of each one!

And that's all there is too it!

I don't have a fireplace mantel to hang them from (fireplaces would certainly be a fire hazard in college dorm rooms!!!), but the bunting still makes out room more festive!!

I'll be sharing this with all the link parties in my header including Today's Creative BlogSerenity Now, Christina's Adventures,

Felt Jack-O-Lantern

Well, I hope you are all proud of me.

I introduce you to my very first seasonal/holiday/festive craft.

Yeah yeah I know. I've had this blog for like...10 months now and I'm just doing my first seasonal craft???  Yes. You are correct. Feel free to send some blogging shame my way. shame. shame. shame.

Ok, well now that that is done..... I introduce you to my cute little felt jack-o-lantern :)

Here's how to make him!

First I cut out a template of a basic pumpkin shape

And then traced it onto some orange felt.

Cut out two pumpkin shapes.

And then cut out black pieces of felt for the eyes, nose, and mouth.

I stitched the pieces on using embroidery floss

And also decided to add in some stitched lines to make it look more realistic. I also cut out and stitched on a piece of brown felt for the stem.

Next I put the second felt pumpkin shape behind the face and then used a blanket stitch to sew all the way around, and stuffed the insides.

After he was all sewed and stuffed, this is what he looks like!

Not very scary, but that's the way I like my Halloween decor :)

Now little Jack-O-Lantern has found a home on my dorm room window with the pumpkins my roommate and I carved this weekend!

So very festive. I'm very proud of myself :)
