DIY Christmas Swag Wreath

This DIY Christmas Swag Wreath is easy to make and adds the perfect festive pop to any front door for this holiday season!

One of the things I really HATE about our house is that there is no basement.  It seriously limits our storage options! We do have a pull down attic though, so all of my seasonal decor gets packaged up in Rubbermaid tubs and stored up in the attic until that season rolls around again.  I refuse go up in the attic though so it's always quite the display of begging, pleading, and a couple of "why-aren't-you-capable-of-doing-this-yourself" being thrown around to make the hubby climb up into the attic and dig around for the right tubs and bring them down again at the start of each season.  After all that back and forth is done though eventually I get my goodies :) While sorting through my Christmas tubs this past weekend I pulled out my old DIY Christmas Ornament Wreath and after two years of hanging on my door and being crammed into tubs in the attic it was looking a little saggy and depressing. Depressing is NOT a good mood for the upcoming Christmas season so I decided it was time to make a new Christmas wreath!

This DIY Christmas Swag wreath is easy to make and won't take you too long either.  I made it in a maroon color scheme to be Christmasy and to match my front door, because, ya know, I'm obsessed with matching everything.

I grabbed all these supplies at Michaels.  I used a maroon and gold wire trimmed ribbon, Styrofoam wreath form, some festive sprays with berries and pine tree branches, and some faux poinsettia flowers.

First step to making this wreath is to cover the wreath form with the ribbon, hot gluing along the way. After making a few yarn wrapped wreaths, I LOVE how fast it goes to cover a wreath form with a nice fat width ribbon.  Super easy and not tedious at all!!!

After the ribbon is on I trimmed down my festive "sprays" and used gobs of hot glue to secure them to the wreath form.

Lastly I trimmed down some poinsettia flowers and glued them onto the center of the sprays.

The finished product looks perfect on my front door!

This was my first Christmas craft of the season and it's gotten me hooked, I'm am so ready to start crafting some more Christmas projects! Too bad it seems like I'm a little far behind the curve in bloggy land. I should have started preparing around Halloween hah. Oh well, even if I'm a little late I will keep sharing what I am making.

I must remember to verrrry carefully package this new wreath up at the end of the season so I don't end up with two limp and depressing looking Christmas wreath's next year. I just love the details in this wreath, it has to last for more than one season!

Do you make a new wreath for each new season or do you try to make yours last? Happy Christmas Crafting!!!!

Spring Flower and Burlap Wreath

Well the calendar is telling me that it is officially spring time...but I'm a little skeptical still. At least we haven't had any more snow recently but our weather here in Eastern PA has been all over the place.  It's currently POURING outside but I'll take the rain over snow any day.  Hopefully all this rain will lead to some pretty spring flowers popping up pretty soon!

In anticipation of some pretty spring flowers blooming in the coming month I decided to make a colorful flower wreath to put on display!

I also really needed to make something to replace my winter shelf decorations I've had up since about oh, a week ago.  Whoops! Oh well. Christmas was ONLY three months ago now :)

I just love how colorful the flowers are on the wreath. It sure puts me in a springy mood even if it is still cold and rainy out there!!

To make my wreath I grabbed a green Styrofoam wreath form for the base.  Since I was planning on wrapping it in burlap I painted it white so no green would show through.

After my paint was dry I wrapped my wreath form with these light burlap fabric strips I got from Michaels and used hot glue to keep it in place.

All wrapped up and ready to get pretty!

To decorate the wreath I made two flowers using this technique using blue burlap strips I also got at Michaels.

And then I picked up a selection of pre-made flowers from Michaels to fill up the rest of the space.  Cheating a little bit? Ahhh well. They are so cute and saved me time! :)

I arranged my flowers onto the wreath and then hot glued them in place.

Here's my finished product!

I hung my wreath up on an old window pane I keep on floating shelves in my family room.  I also added in two cute little birdies I got from Michaels. No more winter trees in sight!

Now I feel caught up with my decor and ready for the week - maybe it will feel more like spring this week. This weekend hubby and I went out wine tasting to some local wineries. We normally go a few times during the year but generally in the warmer months so it feels nice to be "coming alive" somewhat and getting out and about more.  We don't have too many exciting plans for the rest of April but if we have to be stuck inside more at least now I'll have a pretty spring wreath to look at as I wait for spring!!!

DIY Festive Burlap Wreath

Christmas is THIS WEEK! I'm looking forward to feeling festive and spending time with our families. I have off on Christmas Eve and Day so I'm looking forward to the short work week as well :) Before it gets too close to Christmas though I have one more holiday DIY project to share!

I gave a nice sneak peak of this project when I shared my Christmas shelves, but I thought I would share a little more in depth how I made my new Christmas wreath!

DIY Festive Burlap Wreath

I guess it isn't the most Christmas looking... but it still seems festive to me with the glittery burlap and the glittery gold poinsettia flower.  I seem to be decorating with much more gold and glitter this year than with traditional Christmas colors and decor - but I like it :)

I found this pretty glittery burlap from Michaels. Much more fancy than just plain burlap :)

I cut it into long strips

And wrapped it around a Styrofoam wreath form and secured it with hot glue.

All wrapped up and ready to decorate!

I bought a pretty gold flower and two fancy beaded sprays from Michaels.

I used hot glue to attach them the beaded picks

And the flower actually came with a clip on the bottom so I just clipped it onto the stems.

I originally made the wreath to hang on my front door like so:

But I decided to switch things up with my inside decor colors this year so I brought it inside and put it on my old window in my family room!

I put my Christmas Ball Wreath back on my front door which makes the front of my house look more festive. We don't have any outlets on the outside of our house so we can't put any lights up, so this little wreath is about as festive as it's going to get on the outside :)

Well now I'm festive inside and outside with my wreaths! My burlap wreath will be nice to keep all winter season though, it's not tooooo Christmasy. Which I'm glad for because now I don't have to redecorate after Christmas is over!!! I'm all set for the winter season as well :)

Yarn Wrapped Felt Flower Wreath

Today I have a nice neutral wreath to show off which is the newest addition to my front door:

I've only made a few wreaths so far, but they have all just been for the holidays.  I had been meaning to make a nice neutral one for awhile, and this is what I came up with!

I started with a foam wreath form and some neutral tan yarn.  I figured since I was going for neutral that would be a good place to start :)  I wrapped the whole wreath in the yarn hot gluing it in place along the way.

To embellish, I thought I'd add some cute little felt flowers.  I love the classic felt flower tutorial from Mrs. Priss, so I went with that design! Cut out six large petals and six smaller petals (I drew a template out on cardboard) and a circle with felt.

To put in the center of my flowers, I used these adorable buttons from Wholeport!

Put a dab of hot glue the  bottom center of the smaller petals and pinch together.

Put another dab of hot glue in the bottom center of the larger petals and place a smaller petal on top and pinch the sides together.

Glue each petal to the felt circle like so....

Until it's looking nice and ugly....

And then BAM! Hot glue a button in the middle and now you've got a super cute flower!

I made two of the larger flowers, and then made three smaller ones with smaller buttons I got from Walmart.

I hot glued the flowers on in a cluster to the wreath form, and then I was done!

I think these flowers are just so adorable. Perfect neutral wreath for these spring/summer months we are in now.

The color of the felt also coordinates nicely with my burgundy front door! Double plus :)

Valentines Day Heart and Arrow Wreath

I've never decorated at all for Valentine's day...so now that I have my own home it's fun to decorate for each holiday :)

This wreath was spurred by a Styrofoam heart form that I got at a yard sale in the summer for 50 cents! They had a couple for sale...I'm kicking myself now that I only grabbed one!

Supplies needed are a heart form, ribbon, a wooden dowel, and (not pictured) hot glue, felt, and craft paint. I got the dowel for less than a dollar at AC Moore. Score!

First thing I did was wrap my heart in a satin red ribbon, hot gluing to secure
Don't mind my messy craft desk in the background...

Next I painted the wooden dowel with some craft paint and then added on some felt accessories.  I glued on a red rectangle of felt on the bottom and snipped it to a fringe like so:

And for the tip of the arrow I snipped some black felt out in a triangle and glued it on.

To secure the arrow to the heart I just hot glued it to either side of the heart form on the back.

Voila! Super easy and super cheap for me too.  The craft paint and felt I had on hand, so really I spent about $5 dollars for this wreath. Score.

And it is only driving me slightly crazy that the red wreath and burgundy of my front door is clashing MAJOR. Note to self: make next years wreath PINK. I have clashing issues....

Oh well. Valentines Day you are welcome at my house even if you clash with all my decor!!
