Happy Halloween - I'm Alive and Well!

Happy Halloween from Clint Eastwood and a 50s homemaker!!!!

Definitely is a different Halloween than many for us out in PA because of Hurricane Sandy. My prayers are with everyone who lives more coastal than us...the flooding in NJ and NY truly is devastating.

We were lucky enough to get by with no major problems. Our house kept power the whole time. The worst thing that happened to us was our gutter got detached and the top of our porch lamp flew away. No big deal at all.

Hubby's parents had a huge tree fall down in their yard. Luckily it was no where near the house, but it did fall onto another big tree in the yard. The men in the family decided they would try to save the other tree and TOOK A CHAINSAW TO THE FALLEN TREE IN THE MIDDLE OF A HURRICANE. Literally. The wind was crazy. I was so mad. Men do the stupidest things.  Everyone is ok but I just had horrible images of the chainsaw becoming airborne or other trees falling and squashing my sweet (but in this instance incredibly stupid) husband.

Other than that, we were lucky. There are actually a ton of people around here still without power. Lots of downed trees and wires. Lots of food that had to be thrown away. Lots of flooded basements. It stinks, but I have not heard many/any reports of deaths around here or serious injuries.Could have been a lot worse. I feel very blessed to personally have been so unaffected.

Anyone else get hit? Hope you all are well!!!

Your Whims Wednesday #83 {And Features}

Time for another Your Whims Wednesday party!

I'm currently writing this on Sunday night...as you've probably heard the east coast is prepping for a huge hurricane!!! So, not sure about the whole power situation this week...so thought I'd get this scheduled awhile!! If it's quiet over here on the blog, that's why. (Or I'm just being a lazy blogger :) )

Edited on Tuesday: Horray! We've kept power! Lots of downed trees and other close by friends and family without power, but we escaped with just a loose downspout. Prayers for those of you who are worse off than us!!

On My To-Read List

I'm trying to get my Amazon wish-list ready for Christmas (because that's how my family buys gifts for each other!!!) And I realized that my whole list right now is basically books I want to read!! Whoops! Book nerd in me :) I thought I'd share what is on my to-read list in case you were looking for anything good to read too!!

(All links are to Amazon - I get all my books from them either on kindle or cheaper paperback if available)

#1- The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. I mean come on, Harry Potter author goes adult fiction??? You know I want to be all over this book.

2. Delirium by Lauren Oliver. Actually, the whole Trilogy. Another Dystopian society book where scientists have found "the cure" fore love. Sounds interesting!! And anyway, until the third book of the Divergent trilogy comes out I'm craving a new Trilogy to dig into!

3. Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Sounds like a pretty dark thriller (if you couldn't tell by the name)...but I read Gone Girl: A Novel by Gillian Flynn and really liked it so I'm interest to read more from her.

4. The Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner.Yeah, I'm a big sucker for chick lit. And I've read all her other books so I gotta read this one too!

5. Size 12 and Ready to Rock by Meg Cabot. Speaking of chick lit...I read Size 12 Is Not Fat: A Heather Wells Mystery (Heather Wells Mysteries)  and got hooked on the little series. It's a fast and quick read, but fun and good for reading after something super serious!!!

6. Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. The Time Traveler's Wifewas one of my most favorite books EVER so I'm curious to read something else by the same author.

7. The Rackateer by John Grisham. I just recently started reading John Grisham books after finding a dusty copy of The Firm: A Novel in my parents basement. I love the mystery in them! The Rackateer is ranking pretty high right now on Amazon so I'm sure its just as good as his others.

So that's what's on my list for right now! Anyone read any of them before? Worth buying?

What I Wore Wednesday

I've been really good about not going shopping much now that I'm married and have a mortgage and bills and have to pay for groceries and all that fun stuff!!!

But, my birthday was the end of September and so I did treat myself to a few new items. I think I deserved them :) This outfit is completely made up of them! Minus the necklace which I made
Dress: Ross. Leggings: Ann Taylor Outlet. Boots: Ross. Necklace: DIY by My Girlish Whims

This outfit was so cozy and comfortable. I just love leggings and sweater dresses!!

Yeah, I've been sporting the glasses a lot more ever since my eye doctor switched me to daily contacts. I get 2 months of contacts for the same price I used to get 6 months of the other kind. Ouch!!!

Koala Cupcakes

Koalas kind of have a special meaning for the hubby and I. One day, when he's too busy to read my blog I'll tell you why... (hehe) but for now, you will just have to accept that fact that I baked koala cupcakes for my hubby for his birthday and that is normal for us ;) !

Now, I'll start this off by saying I'm not a fabulous cupcake decorator. If you google koala cupcakes you could probably find a better rendition...but, I still think these turned out adorable, even if they are not perfect!

All I did was bake chocolate cupcakes and ice them with white frosting.  I added extra frosting for the ears and added pink icing inside of them. The eyes are chocolate chips and the noses are chocolate covered peanuts.Sprinkle the whole cupcake with some silver sprinkles and then you've got a cute little koala!

Almost too cute to eat. But, they taste really good so not cute enough :)

Oh, and PS. Hubby loved them too!

Pumpkin Carving

I just shared instagram pics on Friday, but I wanted to pop in to show you some pics from carving pumpkins this weekend :)

I had grand plans of going out pumpkin patch pickin' for our pumpkins this year...but apparently those places are expensive. Hubby said we should just get them from the grocery store and then he would put them out in a field for me to go find...hah. Alas. I pulled myself together and said fineeee grocery store pumpkins would suffice. No field hiding needed. maybe next year :)

Coming home with me!

Hubby helping with my pumpkin. Those little saws make your arms tired!!

His finished product. Lol. Just throwing one back with the pumpkin

My spooooky pumpkin :)

Aren't they just adorable?? Man I love fall :)
What kind of faces are you giving your jack-o-lanterns this year??

Insta Friday

I'm getting back into Instagram now that I got a new phone and I got the app working again (it wouldn't update on my old phone and I was too lazy to plug it in and update it that way haha) so here are some of my recent pics! Follow me on instagram at mygirlishwhims

We went apple picking last weekend! I'd never been before, it was so fun! And cheap, we got our apples for 75 cents a pound!

I pick this one, and this one, oh and this one too

hubba hubba hubby :)

We picked like 20 pounds. Lots of apples!

I finally convinced the hubs to instal a garbage disposal in our new house. OH MY WORD THESE THINGS ARE GREAT. No more icky gicky sink gunk that I have to fish out. Love from man and machiene...yeah it runs strong with me and this garbage disposal :)

Sitting an open house. I love being a Realtor!

Here in PA these fall nights are getting so chilly!!! I broke my snuggie out of storage this week and snuggled up with the Insurgent Book (BTW: finished it, crying that I have to wait so long for the third book to come out!!!)

We had my grandparents over for dinner this week. My grandmom is so nice, she brought me money and a whole thing of paper towels! Now that I pay my own bills free paper product really toot my horn...lol :)
