Thanksgiving Season Decorated Shelves

Well, since Thanksgiving is just a few days away I thought it was finally time to share my autumn shelf decor! Gotta document this before the weekend when everything gets switched out for Christmas decor!!

I have floating shelves in my family room that I love decorating for the different seasons and holidays.  You can see my fall shelves from last year HERE. I'll be honest, I'm still working on refining my decorating skills.  I'll always be a jewelry maker/crafter first - but I'm trying to get decent in home decor as well :) I like this year's arrangement much better than last year. I think adding more height and variation in my decor helped out this year!

Here's a close up on all the shelves:
The window is from a local shop, pumpkins from the dollar store (two of them I spray painted), votive holders are from target, I made the fall leaf wreath and give thanks bunting

On this shelf: I got the little copper pitcher from a thrift store, the mini pumpkin was a gift, the large pumpkin is from Ross, and the charger was thrifted and the happy harvest bunting was a DIY

And on my last mini shelf I have two mini pumpkins from a local farm, the vase/candle thing is from Ross, and the little pumpkin arrangement is from a local shop.

I had so much fun swapping out my "neutral" decor for the fall decorations - a sign that it's the holiday season with lots more decorating to come!!

DIY 10 Minute Leaf Earrings

I'm back with another Fall themed jewelry project!

I love making jewelry. I have to admit though: I'm really not that quick at it.  It takes me a long time to design a piece and then when I do get around to creating it I'm always watching a show at the same time and sometimes get distracted.

These earrings, however,  were a welcome change.  The design AND creation process really only took me about ten minutes.  Success! I think I need to work in a mix of more easy projects like this more frequently!!

These earrings don't take a lot of time, and they don't take many supplies either.  All you will need are some leaf charms (mine are from WholePort), large jump rings, a small jump ring, earring hooks, and needle nose pliers.

To start, open a jump ring and add on one leaf charm.

Close the first jump ring. Open a second jump ring and connect it to the first

Add a leaf charm onto either side and then close.

Continue until the earring reaches your desired length. On the last jump ring string on a small jump ring and then attach an earring hook to it.

Voila. A quick and easy pair of earrings!

I like how up close you can tell that they are leaves, but from further away they just look like silver dangles.

I think that makes them very fitting for fall, but still perfect to wear all year-round!

DIY Falling Leaves Necklace

When I was a kid I grew up in a cul-de-sac. The only types of trees we had at our house were small landscaping trees in the garden and some evergreen trees in the back yard.   So when fall came around, I never had a bunch of leaves in our yard to pile up and jump in.  I really WISHED that we had leaves so I could rake them!

In our new neighborhood our house sits right next to some woods and so now that fall has come we have PLENTY of leaves around. I no longer have such strong urges to rake them up and jump into their piles, but they still are pretty never the less :)

This necklace is perfect for the fall season, the leaves are falling all around us and so this necklace gives us the illusion of falling leaves as well!

DIY Falling Leaves Necklace

Supplies

My main supplies for this necklace were Chain, 6mm Round Beads, Copper Findings, and leaf charms.  All supplies can be found on Prima Bead except the leaves. These leaf charms were actually taken off of a necklace my mom used to wear in the 80s/90s. It was always fun to play with when I looked through her jewelry box as a kid, but not so stylish now that we are in the 21st century. I was happy to deconstruct them and put them to a good use!

Tutorial

The first step to making this necklace is to cut out the chain.  Using wire cutters, cut one long piece as the base of the necklace and six shorter pieces.

Next, using head pins make a simple wire loop with the round beads and set aside.

Using a jump ring from the findings pack, attach a leaf to the center of the chain.

Continue to attach until you have seven leaves on the chain.

Next, using the smaller jump rings from the starter pack, attach the six smaller pieces of chain between each of the leaves.

At the ends of each of the small pieces of chain, attach another leaf charm using a jump ring.

Using needle nose pliers, attach the round bead charms throughout the main chain and smaller dangles.

Lastly, use jump rings to attach a clasp to the ends of the chain.

All finished!

I love the two different levels of leaves: like the really are falling off of the chain.

Best part about the leaves on this necklace? You don't really have to rake them :)
