One Month to Jamaica: Weight Loss Update

It's official: one month from today hubby and I will be on our way to Jamaica!!!

Booking that trip two months ago was the kick in the pants I needed to say enough is enough and start getting myself healthy. (If this is news to you catch up here and here). Last month I left off with an update of 16 pounds down (11 in the first month and 5 in the second) and I'm happy to report that as of today I'm down a total of 24 pounds! (8 pounds since last month). According to My Fitness Pal I've reached a 10% loss. Woot!

I'm glad this month I "picked the pace up" and lost more than 5 pounds. I think one thing that helped was I ate much better this past weekend. Er, or just less calories. I may have had alcohol and cake for dinner last Saturday night. Priorities people. Haha no, I normally eat very healthy dinners during the week but I knew I wanted to drink and we were celebrating a friends birthday that night...so it was cake and alochol for my dinner!! haha.

I'm still trying out new healthy recipes during the week, staying away from things that have a lot of cheese, cream cheese, cream (sensing a pattern??) as those are my downfall. I even cooked fish for my first time EVER this week. I was a little nervous, but it actually turned out really yummy!

Mahi Mahi with Breadcrumbs, Garlic and Herbs

This was my sad face from Tuesday night. Every Tuesday hubby has plans so I have the night to myself to make mac and cheese and watch all the girly shows he hates. I really just wanted to sit on the couch and eat lots of food and drink wine but instead I went out to exercise and HAD NO WINE. UGH. Why must wine have calories.

My belly has always been problem area and will be for awhile...but I've noticed my waist a little more prominent lately :) And I think I can see a little difference in my face. I few people have started to notice and comment on some changes so that makes me happy :)

Here's a shot from about 8 months ago (when I had just started a diet that lasted for...oh...a week???) and 2ish weeks ago when I just hit the 20 pound loss mark. Besides the fact that I had bangs back then I think I'm starting to notice a few subtle changes.

Both are gym bathroom slefies before Zumba class. Keeping Classy.

One of the newest thing's I've been doing is going for runs outside. It has been getting into the 50s and 60s around here which feels glorious after the VERY cold and VERY snowy winter we had. I live right up the street from an awesome biking/walking trail so Jefferson and I have been going out for runs/walks a lot more.

This doggie may not be too big but he has ENERGY! He is always out as far as he can on his leash pulling away. He thinks I'm too slow haha :)

I'm still not very good at jogging for long distances outside (I can only seem to do that on the treadmill right now) but I guess you have to practice to get better at everything and even if I'm not running the whole time I'm still buring a good amount of calories. Plus, I'm pretty happy while doing it because THIS is the view along a lot of the trail!!

I've still been using my Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor to track my calories. For my Zumba class and doing at home workouts it works really well, but I've been having troubles with it when I go running. It keeps on losing my heart rate! Maybe because of the strap that goes right under my sports bra...and the girls really bounce allll around when I'm running.... So I bought the ePulse2 Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch & Calorie Counter to use just for running. You wear it around your forearm and it doesn't require a chest strap which seems to work better for me.

I wore BOTH trackers my first time - there is a little spread between the calories they calculate but not that much of a difference.

So I've got one month left until Jamaica. I don't want that to be the end of this journey by any stretch, but it does feel like a good milestone I'm trying to get too. I really would like to be down 30 pounds before we leave, so that would mean I only have to lose six pounds this next month! Very attainable. But then I'll be eating ALLZEFOODS and drinking ALLZEALOCHOLS while in Jamaica (you have to live it up on vacation!!!) so I'll have to get back to work when I get home!

Finding my Style with Kleenex

I'm still trying to refine and develop my home decor style.  We've been in our house for two year now and I think that as each season passes I'm getting a littllle better with my decor choices and placement, but there is certainly still room for improvement.

I was excited to see that for Kleenex’s 90th anniversary, they’re coming out with an innovative first: The Kleenex® Style Studio. It’s a fun, inspiring way to discover more of the Kleenex® Brand designs and products you love!

It was really cool to discover all the awesome new patterns that Kleenex has come out with - blowing your noes no longer has to be boring and mundane - it can be super stylish as well!!

Kleenex is even DESIGNER stylish now - Kleenex partnered with Isaac Mizrahi to create 4 designs to help you express your personal style and to incorporate all the latest fashion trends.  Check out the Style Finder to watch videos featuring Isaac Mizrahi providing his latest style advice!

After checking out the awesome designs online at the style finder I headed out to Target to pick up a few of my own boxes to style in my space.  I got a pretty metallic box, a graphic floral print (one of the Isaac Mizrahi designs!) and a watercolor floral box.

I decided to use the metallic box to style in one the bookshelves in my family room.  I rearranged a few things and pulled in some extra pieces to give it a fresh spring look. I'll never be a "professional stager" but for my beginner experience I think it turned out cute :)

I love how the Kleenex box looks stylish AND is functional: I go through a LOT of tissues and it's so much nicer to have them blend in and actually contribute to my decor rather being a dingy looking box on the coffee table that looks like it came straight out of my grandma's apartment.

Styling with Kleenex helped me push my design style - my favorite shelf I styled was this bottom one with the candle/book combo - so cute!! Even this shelf is functional too - I'll never be one of those bloggers who buys old books to use in their decor, I've got enough of my own laying around I need to store! I just pulled out a couple of blue books (and frantically scrapped off the ugly orange price sticker leftover from one I bought used!!) and sans pricetag I think they look nice on display.

Navy, Yellow & Gray DIY Wedding Shower

I was really the first in my group of friends to get married. I graduated college a semester early and got hitched shortly thereafter! It was fun being one of the first as everything was new and exciting, and it's still fun because I can celebrate with some of my best friends who are preparing for marriage with a more experienced view now. One of my best friends from high school is getting married this June and I am happy to be a bridesmaid!

This weekend us bridesmaids hosted a shower for the bride-to-be and I thought I'd share a few pictures and some easy DIYs I did for decor!

Morgan (the bride) picked Yellow, Navy and Gray as her wedding colors so we piggy backed off of that for the shower theme.  We held the shower at a local homemade food shop which had a lovely event room for us to set up all of our goodies.

I made a super easy Tissue Paper Bunting to hang on our dessert table (great tutorial HERE). This is the best decoration EVER.  All you need is like three packs of tissue paper and it looks so cute hung up!

We had some SERIOUSLY yummy desserts made by my friend and fellow bridesmaid Kellsie:  raspberry cupcakes, strawberry shortcake skewers, and Oreo & Cookie Dough Brownies (YUM!!!)

I made a couple fancy mason jars to hold flowers.  I spray painted them yellow and then added some glitter onto the bottoms using mod podge. (Little Miss Momma has a good tutorial for this!) They were such a cheery accent for the food tables - and fresh flowers are ALWAYS a good idea for parties!
(Also, I have sucky flower arranging skills - one of my guy friends actually did the arranging for us! Hah!)

We had a couple other salty snacks on another table like a veggie platter, pickle sandwiches and tomato, basil and mozzarella skewers.

I made a cute little bunting with the bride & groom's names (cut out with my silhouette) and a washi tape bunting glued onto striped paper straws and stuck into mason jars.

We had a couple of small table set up with more plain mason jars and flowers as well as  some pretty table scatter: I made a little homemade confetti and cut out a bunch of the bride and groom's names with my silhouette to scatter as well

(This was done just a littttle last minute - morning of the shower!!!) I thought it would add a nice personal touch though. Tip for making name cutouts: make sure you use the "weld" feature on the silhouette so the name cuts out as one shape.  I also used the "fill the page" feature to cut a whole bunch of names out real quick!

We also had a little drink station set up with water, soda and sherbert punch.  Aren't you just loving the chalkboard backslash in the background?  So easy to customize for each season!

Lastly I made a little "Bride" bunting to hang above the guest of honor's seat.  Ok ok, I'm not the bride but I was excited to get the party started!!

Here's a shot of all of us bridesmaids pre-party:

And then our guests arrived. We had some time to mingle and eat and did a quick little shower game and then let the happy couple open all of their presents!

 The full bridal party!

All and all we had a great time at the shower and seemed like all of the guests and bride did too, so that's all that really matters :) Now that the shower is done I feel like I can actually get excited for Morgan's wedding!! She's had over a year engagement so now that the shower is done and summer is right around the corner its like the wedding is really happening soon! So excited for your Morgan we love you!!!
