My Purse is Going to be 5,000 Pounds When I'm a Mom

I bought a new purse yesterday. I go through love-hate phases with my bags. First I love them. Then I get tired of never being able to find anything in them because they are so big. So I hate them. Set aside for six months. Pick up again, love it. Then they break. Sad.

This purse had gone through the whole love/hate relationship cycle at least twice. I got it as a graduation present from highschool from two friends. It's very big, which is nice, because I can keep lots of junk it it. It's also very big, which sucks, because I can NEVER find my keys when I need them.

Cute flowery bag had seen better days....

The reason my purse is going to be 5,000 pounds when I'm a mom is because I already carry around so much crap just for me! Add on some babies and stuff they need and I'll never be able to hoist my bag off the ground!!

I documented the things I tote around with me while switching purses for your viewing pleasue.

First: the largest items.
-iPhone
-Wallet
-Novel: The Fountain Head by Ayn Rand. You never know when you will have some down time!
-Water bottle: Me and hydration are good friends
-Ugly pair of scrapped up sunglasses I keep going back to because all my new ones break.

Personal:
 -Body cream
-Lancome foundation
-Contact case
-Broken comb/mirror contraption
-Floss: this has come in handy SO many times
-Mini Scope

Handy Things:
 -Super powerful flashlight
-Altoids tin full of Advil/cold medicine/band-aids
-Mini sewing kit. Never actually used this. I still carry it around just in case.
-Planner
-Orbit spearmint gum. My fave.

The Random Items;
-Dirty tissues and old gum wrappers
-Sonic mints...I can't remember the last time I was at Sonic....Ew.
-Hair tie, clip
-Ear buds
-Foundation
-Pen, pencil
-Mini notebook

The Lip Glosses
Yes, my lip gloss gets its own category. I found NINE LIP GLOSSES in my bag. I have no idea why I would ever need access to nine lip glosses at once....but it nine people suddenly came to me simultaneously with severely chapped lips, I would totally be prepared.

Random Jewelry
The jewelry I get tired of wearing at the end of a long day. I put it in my purse to put away when I get home...and I never do. It's like a second jewelry box with me at all times...

Random Papers
Old pay stubs, coupons, Enter the Haggis concert ticket

Phew. It was good to purge.

I fit mostly everything into my new bag I got at Kohls. (Sorry Ayn Rand, you didn't make the cut :(...)

Isn't it cute?? Love the ruffles and the over-the-body strap. Distributes that 5,000 pounds out a little better.

What random things do you carry around? Can anyone beat nine lip glosses???

Giveaway: Quilted Euphoria

Today I'm happy to introduce you all to Amber from Quilted Euphoria!

I'll let Amber introduce herself:
Hello, I'm Amber and I'm addicted to quilting! I run my little blog over at Quilted Euphoria.

I started falling in love with quilting at a young age. My grandmother made quilts for all occasions, and I remember becoming fascinated with her process early on. My very first quilt that I did myself was made when I was 19 out of leftover pioneer dress fabric. I then caught the sickness and started making many more. I took up the business of quilting as a way to supplement my husband's income after I got married, and have been going full steam ahead ever since.

I started my blog as a way to share my addiction with everyone I meet! I wanted to get my name out there, promote my business and turn doing what I love into a way of life. But mostly, I just want to share the quilting addiction! As much as I love quilting, I also love making all kinds of things with fabric. There is something so addicting about cutting up perfectly good pieces of fabric and sewing them back together again. I don't think there are support groups for this, so I just have to press on the best I know how! ;-)

Amber just launched a new etsy shop with lots of cute quilted items in it. Here are some of the goodies she has available:

Shoe Trends of my Life

Have you ever noticed how many shoe fads there have been in your life? Well, I did today. I decided to write a random blog post on all the "IT" shoes of my life.

The jellies. Man, five years old, give me some candy and my jellies and I was a happy little kid. These were the greatest. Except when it was hot out, and your feet sweat and stuck to the plastic. That was kind of annoying. Perhaps this lead to their downfall....
The three striped Adidas shoe. Yes, count those stripes: THREE. If you had four stripes on your shoes in middle school, you were NOT cool. One girl on my bus had a pair of four striped shoes and she picked the fourth one off to try and fit in. We made fun of her.

I was a mean child.
The chunky sketcher clog. This is not the exact shoe, I couldn't find one online. But man were these sketcher clogs cool.  The heels were super thick though and they were clogs so man you could hear me clogging around from a mile away. Thunk. thunk. thunk. I might have been loud, but man was I cool in those shoes.
Crocs. Never understood this fad. How can you not look down at your feet and think, why yes there are the ugliest pair of shoes I have ever owned. Bleck.

This is one fad (still ongoing) I was a fan of but never wanted to fork the big bucks over to buy them. Fuggs all the way for me:

$30 bucks at payless. How could I say no?
Toms. This is another fad I have never fallen into. I personally thing they are butt ugly. Sorry Toms lovers. And I know they are supposed to be doing good things in the worlds, so kudos for that, but their strategy is a little deceiving. Toms doesn't actually give children in Africa a Toms shoe every time you buy one of their shoes, they give them a cheap plastic sandal. I had a friend who had a sister to volunteered in Ethopia for a year and they handed out the "Toms" to the kids. Kinda a let down.

Lastly, the heelys. All I can say is, WHY DID THEY NOT HAVE THESE WHEN I WAS A KID!! Would have been so awesome.

So what about you?? What were your biggest shoe fads??

Rose Trim Pillow

You all may remember hearing about the WholePort Creativity Expo. Basically, they gave you free craft supplies. AWESOME. This is the one I picked:

Very girly :) A pretty light pink rose trim. And here's what I made with it:

A pillow for my pink chair I recently redid!

I had leftover fabric from covering the seat of the chair. I bought it as a remnant originally for like $2 bucks, and then add on a free pretty trim?? This pillow cost me NADA to make. Most excellent :)

I cut out my pillow pieces and laid the trim down on the front piece. I was going to pin it down and sew it...

But I really suck at sewing and thought the flowers would all get stuck on the foot of the sewing machine....so I just hot glued it on. DON'T JUDGE ME OK??

I pinned the pieces together

And at least sewed the ends of the trim on for good measure :)

I made my own stuffing for the pillow by cutting up ends of quilting batting my mom had. Stuffing is freaking expensive. Cutting up enough batting by hand was also very tiring though....sigh. The price of frugality.

I finally cut enough stuffing and sewed up the last side using a blind stitch. I'm getting better at this stitch...it kinda looked semi-normal when I was done. I was very proud of myself.

And here it is altogether! My pink desk redo and my pink chair redo is now complete with this cute little pillow :)

Thank you WholePort for the free supplies!
If you would head over to the WholePort facebook page and like my entry I would love ya! I could win $50 for MORE free craft supplies. Whoopie!!

I'll be sharing this with all the link parties in my header including Today's Creative Blog and Christina's Adventures

Awkward and Awesome Thursdays

Awkward
-When you adjust yourself on a chair or move your arm on a desk and it makes a farty noise. And if you're with people you know they say, "did you just fart" and you say "no, it was the chair, see!!" and you try to make the noise again. Of course it won't. What's even worse is when you are not with someone you know, so your chair/arm just makes a farty noise and you wonder if that other person thinks you are a icky farter.

-Slits in the back of skirts that you forget about. so they ride up some, and the skirt is still a decent length, but the slit up the back is showing half of my bum to the world.

-Speaking of skirt backs....walking around ALL DAY with dried yogurt and granola from breakfast on the back of my skirt. on my butt. all day. in two different offices at work. thank you so much, mother, for being the only one to point that little tid bit out to me.   Too bad you were 8 hours to late to save my dignity.

-Wearing panties with sequins on them. seriously, what is the point of sequin panties. They would really only ever be useful if I made a habit of dancing on tables at a bar clad only in my underwear. Then maybe the sequins would be appropriate. However, i do not make a habit of dancing on tables in my underwear, so thus these stupid itchy panties that I bought because ooooh they are sparkley and I like sparkely thingssss are very annoying and awkward to itch at all day.

Awesome
-Sleeping on the side of the bed closet to the window, and waking up to a fresh breeze and sunny day right beside my face. best waking up ever.

-Going for rides late at night in fiance's jeep with the top off.

-The pretzel salad I made for a dinner with friends this week. They had never even heard of it before. Have you? Three delicious layers off buttery/sugary pretzels, cream cheese/cool whip, and jello. Hello delicious.

-I FINALLY ordered my save-the-dates. For $8.95 baby!! I'll do a post about them after I receive them.

-My new silver sandals I wore with my outfit today. I looked everywhereeeeee for silver sandals I liked, and eventually found a cheap, cute pair at payless. win. win.
