Pretties & Trying a New Technique

Gorg

I've added some new flower cabochon necklaces to my etsy shop. If you couldn't tell by my captions, I think they're quite pretty.  Check um out here if they spark your fancy :)

On a side note, I ordered supplies to attempt to LEGIT DIY this iconic necklace:
Oh yeah, the J.Crew Bubble Necklace. I've never been so excited to get resin in the mail.

My hubby is away until Saturday :( boo.  Tonight I plan on experimenting with resin, drinking peach wine, eating graham cracker ice cream, and catching up on Craft Wars and Sister Wives. Here's to learning new techniques and not getting high on poisonous fumes or getting chemical burns.  Yay! Maybe I should drink the wine AFTER the resin crafting. Good plan.

Chain Knock-Off Necklace

I loved this necklace from Lauren Elan ever since I saw Sydney from the Daybook wear it. The necklace is no longer available, but when it was it retailed for $165 bucks. Wowzas! That's a nice chunk of change for just some chain!

Take a look a my cheap knock-off version:

Lauren Elan Knock-Off Chain Necklace

Not too shabby! Her necklace has a less, more chunky strands of chain,.  If I make more I think I will try to find heavier chains, but for this version I used a few more medium sized chains to compensate.

Here's how to go about making your own!

Gather a bunch of different kinds of chain. I got mine from Walmart, Joanns, AC Moore, and Fusion Beads. The original also includes one strand of rhinestones at the top, these can be found at Walmart. Create a layout with the chains you have.

Using wire cutters, cut the chains in increasing lengths so they lay nicely when put together.

Use a jump ring to attach half of one side of the chains. (My chains were too bulky to all fit on one)

Here's both sides of my necklace split in half and attached to jump rings.

I then attached the two smaller jump rings on each side to one very large jump ring.

I then used smaller jump rings again to add an extender chain and lobster claw clasp.  And that was it! Easy peasy.

Here are some shots of the finished product :)

I can't wait to wear it...I'm thinking of wearing it with a simple black dress, kind of similar to this look Sydney styled with the original necklace.

Now I've finally got another knock-off checked off my list!

I'll be linking up to these parties:

Hodge Podge

1. I'm doggie sitting this little guy this weekend. Unfortunately, during a little potty break this morning he took off in the neighborhood...which lead to me hobbling around in my fancy work dress, purple flip flops, and soaking wet head from the shower yelling for him to come home. And hubby and I getting mad at each other for missing dog situation. Which led to a good ole cry. Man, after I cry I am just a wreck. I still feel like sticking my lip out and pouting. But alas. Pup is home and fight is over.

2. My new sewing machine and I are not getting along well. I broke my first one somehow after one use....and I just cannot figure this new one out yet. Luckily I did finally figure out how to thread the dang bobbin...but when trying to sew stupid uniform ranks for hubby it just kept on jamming and I wanted to throw it out the window. 5 times.  and then run it over with my car. 10 times. But instead I just cried.

3. Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I finally finished The Hutch that Made me Cry (are you sensing a theme in these items?? haha) and some other stuff around the house. I just need to write some posts up about it but I've been a little busy because...

4. Did you know I'm a Realtor? Probs not because I haven't really posted about it much (I'll write about that more lata) Anywhozers I got my first listing recently and I've been marketing out the wazoo to get this baby sold!!

5. I met this really cute little girl in my neighborhood yesterday. She said "look! There's an airplane! Where is it going?" Me: "Well it's taking the people somewhere. They are traveling" Her: "Are they going to the swimming pool?" Me: "Yeah, they're probably taking a plane to the swimming pool" :)

I feel like today would be a nice to day take an airplane to the swimming pool. Especially because it's supposed to be 97 degrees. Who's coming with?

Jewelry Knock-Off To-Do List {And Call for More Ideas}

As a jewelry maker, I love being able to look at jewelry online or in a store and be able to say, "oh! I can make that!" I've been enjoying making some knock-offs lately, and I'm challenging myself to make more!

I also would LOVE to get some ideas from my fabulous readers.  Do you have your eye on a lovely piece of jewelry that's way too overpriced...and you wish you knew how to DIY it?? Please, leave me a comment!! I'm going to try to do at least one knock-off a month and would love some more inspiration.

Here are some of the pieces on my to-do list:

Anthropologie Knock-Off Earring Tutorial

I'm back with another Anthro Earring Knock-off! The last tutorial I did from Anthro was my most popular tutorial ever on my blog!

I found these Marshmellow Puff Earring on Pinterest from Anthropologie - for wayyy too much money.  I whipped my set up in under an hour and they don't require very many supplies - or much money to make them! Also, if you are not a jewelry-making gal, these are also available in my etsy shop!

Anthropologie Knock-Off Earrings

Here's how to make your own!

Supplies:
-Gold wire in around 16 gauge and 24 gauge
-Earring Hooks
-4mm Czech Glass Beads
-Wire Cutters
-Needle Nose Pliers
-Round Nose Pliers

Steps:
Cut about 5 1/2 inches of the of the 16 gauge wire

Bend the wire into a tear drop shape (does not have to be perfect yet, you can form it more as you go) and using needle nose pliers bend both of the ends of the wire 90 degrees

Using round nose pliers, bend the ends into loops.  Keep one straight up, and one bend sideways.

Connect the sideways loop around the neck of the straight loop.

Squeeze the sideways loop shut with needle nose pliers.

Put the earring form on an anvil and pound it with a chasing hammer to harden the wire so it will keep its shape.

Cut around 12 inches of the 24 gauge wire

Wrap the end of the wire around the middle of the side of the earring form around 8 times

String your beads onto the wire - I did about 8 inches of beads.

Start wrapping the beaded wire around the earring form (you may want to tape the end of the wire so the beads don't fall off)

Wrap the wire until you reach the other middle side of the earring form.

Wrap the wire tail around the wire form again around 8 times.

Trim off the excess with wire cutters

Almost done!

Open up the top loop on the earring, and attach an earring wire.  Squeeze the loop shut with needle nose pliers.

Make a matching earring, and your done!

So pretty! You could also make these in silver, and with other color beads on the bottom. I also have made some in a circle form instead of a teardrop form (which are for sale in my etsy shop)

So what do you think...will you try it out?
