DIY Falling Leaves Necklace

When I was a kid I grew up in a cul-de-sac. The only types of trees we had at our house were small landscaping trees in the garden and some evergreen trees in the back yard.   So when fall came around, I never had a bunch of leaves in our yard to pile up and jump in.  I really WISHED that we had leaves so I could rake them!

In our new neighborhood our house sits right next to some woods and so now that fall has come we have PLENTY of leaves around. I no longer have such strong urges to rake them up and jump into their piles, but they still are pretty never the less :)

This necklace is perfect for the fall season, the leaves are falling all around us and so this necklace gives us the illusion of falling leaves as well!

DIY Falling Leaves Necklace

Supplies

My main supplies for this necklace were Chain, 6mm Round Beads, Copper Findings, and leaf charms.  All supplies can be found on Prima Bead except the leaves. These leaf charms were actually taken off of a necklace my mom used to wear in the 80s/90s. It was always fun to play with when I looked through her jewelry box as a kid, but not so stylish now that we are in the 21st century. I was happy to deconstruct them and put them to a good use!

Tutorial

The first step to making this necklace is to cut out the chain.  Using wire cutters, cut one long piece as the base of the necklace and six shorter pieces.

Next, using head pins make a simple wire loop with the round beads and set aside.

Using a jump ring from the findings pack, attach a leaf to the center of the chain.

Continue to attach until you have seven leaves on the chain.

Next, using the smaller jump rings from the starter pack, attach the six smaller pieces of chain between each of the leaves.

At the ends of each of the small pieces of chain, attach another leaf charm using a jump ring.

Using needle nose pliers, attach the round bead charms throughout the main chain and smaller dangles.

Lastly, use jump rings to attach a clasp to the ends of the chain.

All finished!

I love the two different levels of leaves: like the really are falling off of the chain.

Best part about the leaves on this necklace? You don't really have to rake them :)

  1. I LOVE it Rebecca! I think I might be able to get something similar to the leaves with my new Sizzix BigKick (which should be here today, - YEA!) using heart shaped blanks and an embossing design, then with a dapping block to gain the curvature. What fun! I'm on it!
